the one when april ends

30 04 2008

Before I turned off the television last night, I saw Miley Cyrus’ controversial photo. Hope she doesn’t turn into another Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan.

Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” music video is very funny. It’s like Beauty and the Geek, the music video. Haha. Yeah! Go Mariah! It’s from her new album E = MC^2. Haha.

I downloaded a lot of songs last night since I didn’t have anything much to do. But the download process was being constantly cut since the internet kept disconnecting. Oh well. But I was able to download everything right before lunch today. Haha.

I am beginning to appreciate Desperate Housewives, since I am watching it’s first season on Star World (I think). Haha. Marcia Cross a.k.a. Bree is gorgeous! Haha.

I just watched AI, and I was a little bewildered by what Paula Abdul said when Ryan asked the judges about their comments on the first round. She was already talking about the second round! x_X. Haha. Only after I read Mam Vea’s blog that the reason behind it was she already wrote comments during rehearsals. Haha. Wow. That’s something new. The judges are also good actors. Haha. Oh well.

April is ending. Therefore, the month of May is about to start. It’s a good thing that the start of May is a holiday. Hooray! But this also means that I have to start waking up earlier than usual since we have to attend the 6AM mass everyday. So that means I have to wake up between 5:30 to 5:40 in the morning to be able to dress up for mass, since the church is just a walk away from our house. Haha.

And besides attending mass every morning this May, enrollment, enlistment, exams, finals, grades, and all those other things are coming as well. Maybe not enrollment. But at least the papers for cross-registration. x_X. Oh well.

I can’t tell anything as of now to you guys since nothing is really sure about everything. There is the intent, yet nothing materializes out of it as of the moment. I’ll tell you once I got the confirmation. Haha.

So close, yet so far.

the one who saved two hours

28 04 2008

Why are there times when the internet disconnects and reconnects in less than 3 minutes? It’s really irritating. x_X.

A lot of unexpected things happened today. Haha. First of all, I was able to woke up before 7:30am! Hooray! Haha. That’s a big achievement for me since it is summer. And because I was able to wake up earlier than usual, I was able to arrive at UPLB earlier than usual too, therefore giving me extra time for the examination since Ma’am Malata got in early today. Around 10AM, I was contented with my answers since I felt that I can’t do anything to those questions which I don’t know the answers. Then, I was able to leave UPLB earlier and I was able to eat LUNCH! Around 10:35, I got on to the bus going to Cubao.

Commercial: Creepy! Someone opened the door, and no one’s inside… x_x.

The bus that I rode showed the movie The Golden Compass. It’s a nice movie, but it never really got stuck to my memory. So while I was watching it, it was like I was watching the movie for the first time.

I arrived at Ortigas earlier than expected – 12 noon. Since I knew that the admin offices of Pisay will open at 1:00PM, I decided I should go around SM Megamall for awhile, just to kill time, since I knew that Pisay was only 20 to 30 minutes away. I left at around 12:30PM and rode the MRT. It felt as though ages has gone through since my last visit to MRT 3. They had a new feature. There was a recorded voice that was being played everytime it stops to a station, much like in airports. Haha. Weird to say the least, but it was kinda cool. Haha.

I arrived at Pisay around 12:50, so I went around first before going to the Guidance Office. I met the cafeteria staff, and it was nice to know that they still know me. Haha. I went to the Guidance Office to do some stuff, and went back and forth between the Registrar, the SSD, and the Cashier’s Office for my transcript. Surprising since they don’t charge anything when you order a certificate of graduation. Haha. And transcripts costs only 10php! Woah!

While I was about to leave, someone saw me – Sir Vlad. Haha. We got to talking, yet eventually I left since I had to go to UP also. Apparently, he never received my new number. Haha. All this time he was texting my brother. Oh well.

I left Pisay about 2:05 and arrived at UP Cashier’s Office at around 2:30. I ordered 3 copies of TCG’s (True Copy of Grades) and went to Eng’g Admin to fill out the forms. I arrived there only to find out that I had to go back once again to the Cashier’s Office since I need to order 3 copies of my Certificate of Last Enrollment (there is such a thing?). So I had to walk all the way back, just to pay an amount of 40php (20php/copy for TCG and Certificates) and go back all the way again. x_X. That was really really exhausting. x_X. But I survived, and by 3:00PM, I was done. I was able to see some friends, but we never really got to talking since I have to leave early beacuse my mother who came from the hospital fetched me.

I was able to arrive home at 6PM!!!

Lesson of the story? Waking up 20 minutes early can save 2 hours of your life! Haha.

There is a catch though. I forgot to go to the borading house. x_x. Oh well. Maybe next time.

If you want it, you already got it.

the one who didn’t finish cleaning

27 04 2008

I have so much things to do tomorrow. And no matter how much I want to do them today, I can’t. x_X.

I have to wake up 7:30 in the morning once again so I can catch up to my 8:45 class, in which we will have our first long exam. Eng1. I hope I can do better on that exam. Haha. Ma’am says that the exam is easy. One of her colleagues (meaning one of the teachers in UPLB, likely to be in the Humanities Dept) said that it seemed as though her exam was way easier than the quizzes she gives us everyday. I hope that’s true. Haha. I didn’t study that much. x_X.

After a dreadful first Eng1 exam tomorrow, I will be heading to UPDil and Pisay. I have to do some stuff there for the upcoming enrollment. Don’t worry. You probably won’t need to do that. Haha. Just me.

Also, I am supposed the visit the boarding house I will be going to for the upcoming semester. But I don’t have any money yet so I can’t really make the full reservations. Haha. Oh well. At least I can see the room right? Hehe.

Also, I’ll be bringing some recyclables for the FOPC Team. Haha. Go UP ALCHEMES! I hope my contirbutions can help, even though there not that many. Hehe.

x_x.

(Planned) Schedule for tomorrow:
7:30 – 8:45 WAKE UP! Eat. Take a bath. Leave house.
8:45 – 10:30 ENG1 EXAM!
10:30 – 1:30 TRAVEL… long isn’t it?
1:30 – 2:30 Pisay
2:30 – 5:00 UP
5:00 – 8:00 TRAVEL… again
8:00 Dinner, home at last…

Oh well. x_X.

I cleaned my room today! Haha. And boy, it was really really tiring. To be honest, after 4th year graduation, I never really got the chance to clean my room to that level – meaning when you inspect everything and everything in your room. Haha. Because of that I was able to find the following:
- The Wizard of Oz Script
- The Comedy of Lord Z Script
- Grad Song lyrics
- Palancas
- Grad Pics
- Mam Cion’s handouts
- Physics and Math Notebooks
- Review Materials (supposedly for UPCAT)
- AND A WHOLE LOT FO TRASH! Hahahaha…

But I’m not done yet. I’ll continue tomorrow. Haha…

Maybe it’s for the best. Then again maybe it’s not.

the one who can’t type a decent entry

23 04 2008
It’s one of those days when I actually get to watch American Idol with no disturbances at all. Usually, I would either be thirty minutes late or I never realy wanted to watch at all because I was lazy enough not to turn the TV on. Haha. Oh well.

Andrew Lloyd Webber. Did I spell that right? He was their mentor for the week. He composed the songs present in “Phantom of the Opera” as I recall. I have to say though, he was a very different mentor compared to the others. I don’t know why though. Haha.

Syesha and David Cook did well tonight for me. Carly’s was very, upbeat? Haha. David A’s was very… weird. Haha. I don’t know. I was laughing inside while he was performing because it kinda reminded me of someone whom I don’t want to remember. Haha. Why did he choose that song? Haha. Oh well.

Tsk Tsk Tsk Jason and Brooke. Good luck to both of you. Haha.

Results will be tomorrow, so enough about Idol. Haha.

Moving on to other topics of the world, I was able to watch Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” last night. x_X. Maybe I’ll type something about that later on, when I have my mind set for it. Watch it so you can feel what I felt at those moments.

I was also able to watch “A Date Movie” just minutes ago. Haha. The movie is hilarious. You should watch it. There was a scene where they portrayed a scene from “My Best Friend’s Wedding”. Here’s the original clip. Haha. I’ve always loved this scene. Haha.

Oh well. I guess that’s it. Something is happening, and something is about to happen. Crap. I don’t want to, but it seems I have to. I hope people would understand. Haha. x_X.

I don’t know why I can’t type a decent entry these past few days. Haha. x_x.

We have the capacity to change. We just have to summon the will to change.

the one about her speech

21 04 2008

When I was little, I wanted what many Filipino children all over the country wanted. I wanted to be blond, blue-eyed, and white.

I thought — if I just wished hard enough and was good enough, I’d wake up on Christmas morning with snow outside my window and freckles across my nose!

More than four centuries under western domination does that to you. I have sixteen cousins. In a couple of years, there will just be five of us left in the Philippines, the rest will have gone abroad in search of “greener pastures.” It’s not just an anomaly; it’s a trend; the Filipino diaspora. Today, about eight million Filipinos are scattered around the world.

There are those who disapprove of Filipinos who choose to leave. I used to. Maybe this is a natural reaction of someone who was left behind, smiling for family pictures that get emptier with each succeeding year. Desertion, I called it. My country is a land that has perpetually fought for the freedom to be itself. Our heroes offered their lives in the struggle against the Spanish, the Japanese, the Americans. To pack up and deny that identity is tantamount to spitting on that sacrifice.

Or is it? I don’t think so, not anymore.

True, there is no denying this phenomenon, aided by the fact that what was once the other side of the world is now a twelve-hour plane ride away. But this is a borderless world, where no individual can claim to be purely from where he is now. My mother is of Chinese descent, my father is a quarter Spanish, and I call myself a pure Filipino-a hybrid of sorts resulting from a combination of cultures.

Each square mile anywhere in the world is made up of people of different ethnicities, with national identities and individual personalities. Because of this, each square mile is already a microcosm of the world. In as much as this blessed spot that is England is the world, so is my neighbourhood back home.

Seen this way, the Filipino Diaspora, or any sort of dispersal of populations, is not as ominous as so many claim. It must be understood. I come from a Third World country, one that is still trying mightily to get back on its feet after many years of dictatorship. But we shall make it, given more time. Especially now, when we have thousands of eager young minds who graduate from college every year. They have skills. They need jobs. We cannot absorb them all.

A borderless world presents a bigger opportunity, yet one that is not so much abandonment but an extension of identity. Even as we take, we give back. We are the 40,000 skilled nurses who support the UK’s National Health Service. We are the quarter-of-a-million seafarers manning most of the world’s commercial ships. We are your software engineers in Ireland, your construction workers in the Middle East, your doctors and caregivers in North America, and, your musical artists in London’s West End.

Nationalism isn’t bound by time or place. People from other nations migrate to create new nations, yet still remain essentially who they are. British society is itself an example of a multi-cultural nation, a melting pot of races, religions, arts and cultures. We are, indeed, in a borderless world!

Leaving sometimes isn’t a matter of choice. It’s coming back that is. The Hobbits of the shire travelled all over Middle-Earth, but they chose to come home, richer in every sense of the word. We call people like these balikbayans or the ‘returnees’ — those who followed their dream, yet choose to return and share their mature talents and good fortune.

In a few years, I may take advantage of whatever opportunities come my way. But I will come home. A borderless world doesn’t preclude the idea of a home. I’m a Filipino, and I’ll always be one. It isn’t about just geography; it isn’t about boundaries. It’s about giving back to the country that shaped me.

And that’s going to be more important to me than seeing snow outside my windows on a bright Christmas morning.

Mabuhay and Thank you.

It’s Patricia Evangelista’s winning speech last 2004. I’m not sure though with the event and the details. Haha. But her speech was great right? A borderless world. Oh well. From what I know, she was then 19 years old, and she studied at UP Diliman and took up Mass Communications. Haha.

Why I suddenly found this speech? It’s our Eng1 quiz which took up the whole period of an hour and forty-five minutes. We were suppose to identify the phrases and clauses present in her speech, and identify what type of phrase or clause they are and how they function in the speech. X_x.

I did manage to get a relatively high score, given the fact that I didn’t really study that much. But I guess I have to do better next time (meaning I have to do better TOMORROW!). Haha…

Leaving, sometimes, isn’t a matter of choice. It’s coming back that is.

the one about phrases, clauses, etc.

20 04 2008

Well this is exciting. I have to wake up early again tomorrow for my 8:45 class. x_X. Therefore, I have to wake up around 7:30AM so I can leave the house before the clock hits a quarter past 8 so I can arrive in the humanities building just about 5 to 10 minutes before Mam Malata does.

I’ve realized these past few days why Dad wanted me to study here in UPLB. For one, it’s just 20 minutes away from home, inclusive of traffic. If ever I left something, or I need to get home really bad, then I won’t spend as much as an hour to go back and forth from school. Plus, I get to drive Dad’s mazda 3, sparing me the commute time and jeepney fare (ofcourse that would mean spending the money on the rising prices of gasoline). Haha. And some do say that Chemical Engineering is better here in UPLB than in UPDil (but I think it’s just the same).

But, then again, it’s not like I am moving here or something. Haha. Maybe. Maybe not. Depends really on the situation. Haha. Oh well.

Anyways, Mom is doing better these past few days. She is able to walk faster, and go up and down 4 steps a day. Haha. Hooray!

Also, Dad got back from China last Saturday morning. Haha. He didn’t bring much pasalubong since none of us really wanted anything for the time being. He did bring home though a bunch of toblerone bars and some souvenirs he got for all of us.

I am currently addicted to watching ANTM 9 on youtube every now and then. Haha. Heather should have won! Haha. Oh well.

Nouns. Verbs. Adjectives. Adverbs. Prepositions. Conjunctions. Articles. Parts of Speech. Subject. Verb. Direct Object. Indirect Object. Subject Compliment. Object Compliment. Infinitive Phrases. Prepositional Phrases. Gerundial Phrases. Participial Phrases. Noun Phrases. Noun Clause. Adjectivial Clauses. Adverbial Clauses.

X_X.

And to think that I said to myself before taking Eng1 that the subject would be a breeze. X_x. Guess that’s something I should erase in my mind. Haha. Oh well. I should study for the quiz tomorrow… or not.

It’s not enough to succeed – others must fail.
